Why is My Lyft Account Suspended?

The gig economy is expanding at a rate that cannot be stopped. Popular ridesharing business Lyft is a prominent player in the market. The business does background checks on its staff to keep its status.

Rather than doing background checks on its own, Lyft mostly employs the services of Checkr, Inc., a consumer reporting agency. To provide background reports on its drivers, Checkr gathers information from many sources. This implies that possibly incorrect details from any one of numerous sources may be included in the web of data used to create a background report on a Lyft driver. As expected, this might complicate the process of updating inaccurate information and make it hard to revive a Lyft account once it’s been disabled. If the process of removing the errors seems too difficult for you, contact a lyft deactivation lawyer.

What Does Lyft Look For In Their Background Checks?

One step in the Lyft application process is a background check. It guarantees that all drivers adhere to the organization’s safety guidelines. You usually give your Social Security number and consent to a background check throughout the application procedure. Lyft’s background check process is heavily impacted by the legislation of the state and municipality in question.

The background check conducted by the firm primarily focuses on two areas:

  • driving history
  • criminal history

Any adjustments to your account status should be sent to you via mail by Lyft. You will therefore receive an email saying, “Your driver account has been suspended,” if you are suspended. Likewise, the account status email will say, “Your driver account has been deactivated,” if the intention of your removal from the app is permanent.

What May Result In The Suspension Or Deactivation Of A Lyft Driver?

When a driver applies for a Lyft account, their account may be blocked or turned down for one of two background-related reasons. The first happens when a driver’s eligibility is revoked per Lyft standards due to information discovered during an employment-related background check. The second occurs when a record appears on a Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) check and disqualifies the driver in accordance with Lyft policy.

Information In Your Background Checks That Disqualify You:

When a background check report includes information that disqualifies a driver under Lyft’s policies, such as being convicted of an act of terror or a violent crime like homicide, kidnapping, or other sexual offenses, the potential candidate is denied access to the platform or their Lyft driver account is disabled.

Information In Your Dmv That Disqualify You:

When a driver’s DMV check report includes information that disqualifies them under Lyft’s published regulations, the driver is either refused access to the platform or has their Lyft driver account disabled. The information that disqualifies you is:

During the previous three years:

4+ moving offenses of a particular kind, such as collisions and running red lights.

1+ moving offenses of a certain kind, such as driving while intoxicated or having a suspended license.

During the previous seven years:

DUI/DWI or similar infractions

having a significant driving violation conviction, such a hit-and-run

Lyft purchases its DMV check reports from Safety Holding, Inc., a separate business. This firm compiles information about each driver from various sources, and occasionally inaccuracies can be noticed in the reports.

Other Reasons

According to Lyft, driver accounts can be suspended for a wide range of reasons, such as when customers report behavior that goes against Lyft’s rules. The mutual expectations for driver and consumer involvement are outlined in these regulations. If Lyft deactivated your account for any of these reasons and you have tried unsuccessfully to dispute the accusations, it might still be worthwhile to speak with an experienced Lyft deactivation attorney to see if you have a case to have your Lyft account reinstated.

How To Proceed If Your Lyft Account Gets Suspended?

There are actions you may take to try to have your Lyft driver account reactivated if it has been canceled.

Understand the cause of the account deactivation.

If Lyft hasn’t explained its reasons to you directly via mail, get in touch with Lyft to find out. You must understand why your Lyft account was disabled if you want to reinstate it.

  1. Contest the final decision.

Usually, drivers initiate communication using the Lyft app or website, where they may send support messages, leave a phone number for a callback, and ask for assistance.

  1. Get a copy of any report that is appropriate.

Lyft is required to notify you if the decision was made because of information found in a background check and give the consumer reporting agency’s contact details (name, address, phone number).

  1. Dispute any inaccuracies found in the report.

Lyft regularly conducts background checks. The employer has the right to remove you from the driver pool if there are any disqualifying incidents on your criminal or driving record. If mistakes in your background report led to the suspension of your account, get in touch with Consumer Attorneys.
