Leading law firms in the United States want to get to know you and your case before agreeing to represent you. This is where a case review comes in. You can make an appointment with your chosen lawyer, discuss what you’ve been through, and get to know the lawyer who may represent you.

However, case reviews can be scary when you don’t know what will happen. Every law firm is different, but the following information may be what you can expect:

A Free Case Review

While not every personal injury lawyer provides free case reviews, many do. When case reviews are free, there are no barriers to people needing legal help to meet with their preferred lawyer.

Events like car accidents that result in injuries often lead to significant financial stress. As a result, not everyone has the spare funds to pay for a lawyer’s time before they agree to take on their case. A free case review ensures fair access to legal help for all.

However, free case reviews aren’t just limited to personal injuries. Lawyers providing criminal law services also typically offer free case reviews.

An Assessment Of Your Damages Potential

Being involved in an accident or severe event doesn’t guarantee that you’ll have a strong case for damages. That’s why requesting a free case review can be crucial.

An experienced lawyer can hear the facts of your case to help you understand your legal rights and the potential for you to recover damages. They may also advise whether a claim with an insurance company or a lawsuit is in your best interests.

Questions To Answer

It’s a good idea to arrive at your free case review meeting prepared with all the facts your lawyer may need to make an informed decision about representing you. They typically need to know:

  • Where your accident happen
  • When it happened
  • Who else, aside from you, was involved
  • Who do you think was at fault
  • How the accident happened
  • Whether you filed a police report
  • Whether you reported the accident to your insurance company
  • The injuries you sustained
  • Medical treatment you sought for your injuries
  • The harm you suffered

The more information you bring to your meeting, the easier it might be for a lawyer to decide whether you have a case worth pursuing through the legal system. At a minimum, don’t forget to bring:

  • Medical information and bills
  • The police report
  • Eyewitness contact information
  • Injury and accident photos and video footage

Questions To Ask

Your lawyer will ask you many questions about your accident. However, you’ll also have an opportunity to ask your lawyer questions about themselves. After all, you deserve to make an informed decision about who will represent your case.

You may ask about your lawyer’s experience and qualifications in similar cases. You can even ask whether they’ve gone to trial and what their success rate is. Asking about fee structures is also essential for knowing how you’ll pay for their time. Most personal injury lawyers operate with contingency fees. This fee structure means you don’t need to pay for their time until your case is successful.

Case reviews with personal injury lawyers are a standard part of commencing a personal injury claim. Understanding what’s involved in them may make you feel more confident to request one and navigate the process with ease.
