Mission of the Institute of Forensic Science and
Public Policy
Summary
The AJS Institute of Forensic Science and
Public Policy is devoted to improving the administration of
justice through the application of cross-disciplinary research
and education.
|
The goals of the institute are to improve the reliability and accuracy of
justice system outcomes and improve public safety, in order to promote and
enhance public trust and confidence in law enforcement and the nation’s courts.
Towards these ends the Institute shall:

Collect and review existing research products directed toward justice
system practices and procedures;

Identify, facilitate, and encourage needed cross-disciplinary research and
innovations;

Collaborate with research institutions, educational institutions, law
enforcement agencies, scientists, the courts, attorneys, crime victim
representatives, civic and professional organizations, and all others
interested in the work of the institute;

Develop and promote forensic science standards and best practices;
-
Educate students at all levels of education, the general public, the law
enforcement community, judges, and attorneys about matters at the nexus of
science and law;

Provide forums for scientists, judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys,
civil practitioners, police, crime victim representatives, educators,
journalists and other interested members of the public to explore issues
involving science and the law; and
-
Provide a source of accurate information regarding forensic science to the
news media.
