The State Court Judiciary: A Program for Reform

Summary

On April 8, AJS staff members attended and participated in a program at Fordham Law School entitled “Enhancing Judicial Independence, Accountability, and Selection for the State Court Judiciary: A Program for Reform.”

This program was the fourth regional conference offered through the Sandra Day O’Connor Project on the State of the Judiciary at Georgetown University Law Center. Two national programs were held in 2006 and 2007.

The April 8 program began with introductions and remarks by U.S. Supreme Court Justices Sandra Day O’Connor (Ret.) and Stephen G. Breyer, and featured four moderated panels on judicial independence, impartiality, accountability, and performance. Program participants and attendees are now forming working groups to develop recommendations for reform.
