Although judicial nominating commissions share similar functions and responsibilities, there is remarkable variation in the composition of these commissions as well as the internal and external (constitutional, statutory, and judicial) rules that govern commission decision-making.  Learning more about how commissions operate around the country may facilitate efforts to create more effective and efficient merit selection processes.
