Welcome to the Pro Se Forum
The American
Judicature Society’s Pro Se Forum offers publications and
resources for court staff and judges who deal with pro se
litigants, links to national, state, and local programs that
assist self-represented litigants, and research and reports on
pro se assistance programs. The Pro Se Forum was initially
funded by a grant from the State Justice Institute
(SJI-99-N-042-U00-1).
AJS convened the first national
conference on pro se litigation issues in Scottsdale, Arizona in
1999, and since that time has sponsored two regional conferences
for judges and court managers. AJS’s major publications on this
topic include Reaching Out or Overreaching: Judicial Ethics
and Self-Represented Litigants and Meeting the Challenge of
Pro Se Litigation: A Report and Guidebook for Judges and Court
Managers.
The Society also supports the
Self-Represented Litigation Network and honors outstanding
contributions to the pro se field through the
Kathleen M. Sampson Access to Justice Award.
