Task Force on Judicial Independence
Summary
AJS has formed a special task force to
address specific issues regarding judicial independence.

Because of increasing attacks on judicial independence, AJS has taken
a proactive approach and established a task force under the umbrella of the Center for Judicial
Independence. This task force will monitor and respond
to attacks on the judiciary. It will focus on the need for
judges to be able to make decisions and rulings independent of outside
influence. At the same time, the task
force will reiterate the need for judges to be held accountable for
their actions, and will consider the current mechanisms in place to
handle such a review.
The goal is for this task force to become a preeminent
research and educational arm of AJS by providing objective commentary on these subjects.
It will be chaired by Neal Sonnett, AJS Past President and an attorney from
Miami, Florida. The roster is below.
