Tom Phillips Receives Prestigious
Justice Award

Thomas R. Phillips, Former Chief Justice of the Texas Supreme Court, received the highest honor AJS bestows, the Justice Award, during a ceremony held in Houston, Texas, on November 15. Former U.S. Secretary of State James A. Baker, III, delivered the keynote address at the award ceremony. (Read more.)

AJS Statement on Pakistan
Pakistani lawyers and judges have been at the center of the unrest and upheaval enveloping the country in response to President Musharraf’s suspension of the constitution and imposition of emergency rule. AJS joined the ABA and other organizations from all parts of the globe in issuing statements against the situation. (Read more.)

AJS Comments on Draft Rules Governing Judicial Conduct and Disability Proceedings

An AJS committee has released its comments and proposals regarding the Draft Rules Governing Judicial conduct and Disability Proceedings developed at the direction of the Judicial Conference. The Rules are intended to ensure that provisions of the Judicial Conduct and Disability Act are uniformly applied throughout the federal judiciary.  (Read more.)
