Nominations open for 2010 Devitt Award
Summary
Nominations
are being accepted for the 2010 Devitt Distinguished
Service to Justice Award. Deadline is March 31, 2011.
|

The ideal nominee, who must be an Article III judge of national stature, will
have had a distinguished lifelong career characterized by decisions that,
through his/her wisdom, humanity and commitment to the rule of law, make clear
that bench, bar, and community alike would willingly entrust that judge with the
most complex cases of the most far-reaching import.
There is no structured format for submitting a nomination. However, inclusion of
the following would be helpful to the Committee:
-
Evidence that the nominee has achieved a distinguished,
life-long career as a federal judge—for example, a description of the judicial
career and specific accomplishments, and any awards and commendations received;
-
A description of significant contributions to the
administration of justice—for example, in positions such as chief judge,
committee or special task force member, and bar leader;
-
A listing of, or brief excerpts from, scholarly articles, lectures,
speeches, or judicial opinions that illustrate extraordinary or remarkable
contributions to justice;
-
References to other public activities—for example, civic leadership roles
at the state or community level in which the nominee has demonstrated a
commitment to the improvement or benefit of society;
-
An indication of any activities through which the nominee has contributed
to the advancement of the rule of law or the administration of justice in
other places throughout the world.
The Committee would appreciate home and office phone numbers
and e-mails for the nominee if available. An original nomination plus three
duplicates, including three copies of support
materials, should be provided.
Previous nominations may be renewed but should be updated as necessary.
Materials previously submitted are retained for two years.
